Certification

Importance of the certification

The G3-Alliance was formed in order to standardize and promote powerline and hybrid RF technology globally. Since smart grid implementations require major investments the issuing of certificates is very important. High quality certificates will give both vendors and users assurance that their meters, data concentrators and other devices have the correct implementation of the G3 standard, that they are interoperable with other certified devices and meet the specified performance levels.

Therefore, many G3-Alliance members have been working closely together to define the G3-Alliance certification program, leveraging all available expertise to meet the needs of all stakeholders.

Members of the Alliance can find all details of the certification program here.

How to certify your product?
Testing for G3 Certification is performed by two selected test laboratories: LANPARK in France and TÜVRheinland in Japan. The interoperability plugfest is operated by Trialog in Paris. These laboratories conduct a series of tests developed and maintained by the G3-Alliance.

Important considerations for G3-Alliance certification

Manufacturers should be aware of certain aspects related to the G3-Alliance certification early in their product development process. When manufacturers are not aware of these aspects (for example the inband background electrical noise of their product), it may lead to rework after the manufacturers came to the test laboratories for certification. Manufacturers who start product development and intend to certify their product in a later stage, can find more details  in the user guidelines for certification (see G3-Technologies / Userguidelines #9 ).
